GetAlert ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our emergency alert notification service.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you interact with GetAlert by texting a community PIN or ZIP code to 1-844-321-ALRT (2578), we collect:

  • Phone Number: Your mobile phone number, which is required to deliver SMS alerts to you.
  • Community Selection: The community PIN or ZIP code you texted, indicating which community's alerts you are interested in.
  • Consent Record: A record of your explicit YES reply consenting to receive alert messages, including the timestamp and the opt-in prompt you were shown.
  • Subscription Status: Whether you are actively subscribed or have unsubscribed from alerts.
  • Subscription Timestamps: When you subscribed and, if applicable, when you unsubscribed.

Information Collected Automatically

When we send you SMS messages, our service provider (Twilio) may collect:

  • Message delivery status (delivered, failed, etc.)
  • Timestamps of message transmission
  • Technical identifiers necessary for message routing

Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect:

  • Your name, address, or other personal identifying information
  • Your location or GPS data
  • Any information from your device beyond what is necessary for SMS delivery
  • Your message content (other than subscription commands like community PINs, YES, STOP, STATUS)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your phone number solely for the following purposes:

  • Delivering Emergency Alerts: Sending you time-sensitive information about emergencies, public safety notices, and community announcements from the organization you subscribed to.
  • Managing Your Subscription: Processing your community lookups (PIN/ZIP), opt-in consent (YES), unsubscribe requests (STOP), and status inquiries (STATUS).
  • Service Operations: Maintaining delivery logs to ensure alerts are successfully transmitted.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your phone number to third parties for marketing purposes. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We use Twilio to deliver SMS messages. Twilio processes your phone number solely to transmit messages on our behalf and is contractually obligated to protect your information.
  • Organization Administrators: The organization you subscribed to (e.g., your county emergency management office, fire department, or school district) may have access to aggregate subscriber counts but not individual phone numbers unless required for service delivery.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of GetAlert, our users, or the public.

4. Data Retention

We retain your phone number and subscription data for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain a record of your phone number and unsubscription date for up to 24 months to honor your opt-out preference and prevent accidental re-enrollment. After this period, your data is permanently deleted.

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest
  • Access controls limiting who can view subscriber data
  • Regular security assessments of our systems
  • Use of reputable, security-certified service providers (Twilio, Supabase)

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Opt-Out

You can stop receiving alerts at any time by texting STOP to 1-844-321-ALRT (2578). You will receive a confirmation message and will no longer receive alerts unless you re-subscribe.

Check Subscription Status

Text STATUS to 1-844-321-ALRT (2578) to check whether you are currently subscribed and to see information about the latest alert.

Re-Subscribe

If you previously unsubscribed, you can re-subscribe at any time by texting your community's PIN to 1-844-321-ALRT (2578) and replying YES to the opt-in prompt.

Data Access and Deletion

To request access to or deletion of your data, contact us at privacy@getalert.co. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

7. Children's Privacy

GetAlert is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has subscribed to GetAlert, please contact us and we will promptly delete their information.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify subscribers via SMS and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of GetAlert after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
